It’s a common myth that having sex in a pool or hot tub will lower the possibility of pregnancy, but it’s untrue. There is nothing in swimming pool water that can kill sperm or prevent pregnancy.

A man can ejaculate 200 to 500 million healthy sperm, and it only takes one to fertilise an egg. Even if you use a condom, it can possibly rupture from decreased lubrication, or deteriorate from other substances in the water, such as chlorine, sunscreen, or tanning lotion. The condom might even slip off if water gets into it. In addition, if you’re going to be doing it in a public pool, you might also get busted by the police.
