I love my guy and he's absolutely perfect, except for his parents. There's just one tiny problem -- they don't seem to like me very much. What can I do to win them over? – Tina, 27 PDF Print E-mail

First and foremost, you should let him know that this matter is troubling you. It shows that you care about him enough for you to want his parents to like you too. Do be careful to approach this matter with sensitivity and tact, because he might get over-protective and defensive of his parents if you were to say something like, "I don't understand why your mother just can't be bothered to make eye contact with me". Ask him if this has always been the way that they've reacted in similar situations. If it is, then it's probably nothing personal, and you should just give them some time to warm up with you. If it isn't, the situation is slightly trickier, but not unsalvageable.

Don't go out of your way to avoid them cos this will only worsen the situation. Always remain friendly and respectful to them. Don't be afraid to let your man know that you need support from him too when you're both with them. Parents only want the best for their children, and they just might cave once they see how happy he is with you Whatever you do, make sure that you always think about his feelings – the worst thing you could do is make him feel like he's caught in the middle.
