I’m really clumsy and am prone to getting stains all over my clothes, how can I get them out? - Anne, 25 PDF Print E-mail

Your best bet would be to follow these few tips:

Rinse immediately:
The moment a stain falls on your clothes would be the best time for you to remove it. Hurry to the wash room and use water to rub as much of it off as possible.

Salt:
Salt can act as a good abrasive to rub off the stain but don’t rub too hard or you’ll end up with a hole in your clothes. Sprinkling salt on spilled red wine will keep the wine from staining until you can launder it

Vinegar
For stains on fabric like silk, try adding ½ cup of mid detergent and two tablespoons of white vinegar of two quarts of cold water. Do not soak the material in this solution. Rinse well and then roll the garment in a towel and iron it while it’s still damp. To prevent yellowing of linen and wool, especially of garments and blankets, add ½ cup of white vinegar to the rinse water.

Sugar
If you come across an oily stain, make a paste of sugar and water and rub it into the stain and let it set before washing.

Keep a stain remover at hand. Try 'Exit - instant stain remover'. My mum bought a few bars of it from Howards Storage World. It works on many materials and various types of stains - just follow the instructions closely. :)

ohdear, apart from these home remedies, are there any tried and tested commercial detergents that will work?
